ASK REBATES

FAQs

Answers to common heating & cooling questions.

What problems can oversized equipment cause?

Oversized equipment can increase upfront costs and may lead to frequent cycling, higher energy use, reduced comfort, and unnecessary wear. That’s why ProD assesses your home and its needs before recommending the right system, rather than simply matching the existing equipment.

Why are some rooms too hot while others are too cold?

Uneven comfort can result from duct sizing, air leakage, insufficient return air, register locations, insulation, windows, solar gain, or system balance. Simply installing larger equipment may not solve the problem. With ProD ClimateProfile™, we assess your home and existing system to identify possible causes before recommending the right solution.

Will a heat pump require an electrical upgrade?

It depends on your existing electrical panel and available capacity. ProD’s licensed technical partner team will assess whether your home can support the proposed equipment. If additional capacity is required, options may include a service upgrade or suitable load-management solution. Any required permits and inspections will also be confirmed.

View More Questions

Can a heat pump provide enough heat during a British Columbia winter?

All-electric cold-climate heat pumps are well suited to many Greater Vancouver homes, providing efficient year-round heating and cooling. For areas with more extreme cold, a dual-fuel heat pump system can provide additional heating support from a gas furnace when needed. ProD assesses your home and local conditions to recommend the most suitable system.

Should I choose a central ducted or ductless heat pump?

Homes with suitable ductwork may be a good fit for a central system, while homes without ducts or needing individual zone control may benefit from a ductless mini-split or multi-split system. With ProD ClimateProfile™, we assess your home’s layout, existing ductwork, comfort needs, and installation conditions before recommending the most suitable configuration.

How should I choose between a heat pump and a furnace?

The right choice depends on your home’s heating needs, existing fuel and ductwork, electrical capacity, cooling needs, equipment cost, and household preferences. ProD assesses these factors before recommending a heat pump, furnace, or dual-fuel system that best suits your home.

Will switching to an all-electric heat pump affect my gas water heater?

Space heating and domestic hot water are typically separate systems. Your existing gas water heater may remain if the gas supply, venting, and other requirements are suitable. The final configuration will be confirmed during the site assessment.

Will a heat pump or gas furnace work during a power outage?

Usually not. Both heat pumps and modern gas furnaces require electricity to operate. Any backup-power solution must be properly designed for the equipment and meet applicable safety requirements.

Do my existing ducts need to be replaced when a new system is installed?

Not necessarily. If your existing ductwork is suitable for the new system, ProD will keep the current duct sizes and vent locations where possible to avoid unnecessary changes. If we identify air leaks, insulation concerns, or other issues that may affect performance, we will explain them and recommend any necessary improvements.

Can a heat pump be installed in a condo, apartment, townhouse, or mobile home?

Many strata homes can accommodate a heat pump. ProD can assist with the required information and documentation for strata submission and approval. We will also assess the outdoor-unit location, noise, appearance, electrical capacity, and installation requirements. Rebate eligibility depends on the applicable program requirements, and we will help you understand the available options for your project.

Is strata approval needed before installation?

Yes! Strata approval is required for most strata homes before installation. ProD will assist with the required documentation and help you through the strata approval process before the work begins.

Is gas heating always cheaper than a heat pump?

Not necessarily. Operating costs depend on your home’s insulation and heat loss, energy prices, system efficiency, and how the equipment is used. A newer, more efficient system may reduce energy use compared with older equipment. Upfront costs can also vary between heat pump, furnace, and dual-fuel options, while eligible systems may qualify for available rebates. ProD assesses your home and needs to help you compare suitable options and overall costs.
